 Steamed foods

1.Boiled Peanuts
Boiled pea nuts are healthy options boiled or steamed in water with salt is a healthy snack.

These are the healthier version - The boiled lentils are tossed with mustard,onions , chilly and finished with grated coconut is a tasty healthy snack. you can have fresh lentils boiled turn to tasty sundal.

Use the fresh beans they are better than dried one as the fresh lentils are soft and gives good taste.


3. Kozhukattai

These are the steamed Rice powder mixture . you can have as many variation as you like.These usually comes in two forms a. sweet b. spicy

4. steamed Momos



Momos are the best steamed snacks where it is packed with vegetable, chicken or beef , the wrapper is made like chappathi but very thiin. The beauty is in folding it in to a nice shape.

Momos are steamed , you have fried versions also but steamed is best.

Roasted / shallow fried / baked

1.Puffed Rice


These are very simple snack - The Puffed rice is gently tossed with Mustard cracked in oil with garlc crushed and chilly, what makes unique is the garlic and turmeric.

Masala Pori


The same puffed rice is tossed with onions, tomato , chilly and oil. It is like mixed salad but spicy and tasty.








2. Roasted Peanuts

The peanuts can be roasted with skin or without skin. In southern india the roasted peanuts with the salt is very famous .

To get the uniform heat these are roasted in the hot sand which gives crispy and they are very tasty

If you are spice lover than you can throw some small oil in a kadai toss the peanut with chilly powder, salt and turmeric. A spicy treat.

3. puffed up / fried Sago ( sabunthana )

My best all time snack is puffed up fried sago. all you need is good sago. you add oil and when it is medium hot through the sago, you shall see it puffs up. Only small amount of oil can makes more puffed sago. Throw some chilly powder or peppercorns. a feast in the evening.

4. Cooker Popcorn


cooker popcorn are the best you have ready available in the market. all you need is a rice cooker or you can choose microwave popcorn you can have many varieties from sweet caramel to butter .

5. Podi Idly


Idli or idly are a type of savoury rice cake, originating from the Indian subcontinent, popular as breakfast foods in southern India and among Indian-origin Tamils in Sri Lanka. The cakes are made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented black lentils and rice.

A special roasted lentil powder is made which is tossed with these mini IDLY with oi. A spicy treat.

6. Mini Oothappam


These are surprise package these small rice pancake topped with variety of fillings .

7. Oven Baked Chips

Place apples on the baking sheet in a single layer and not touching each other. Sprinkle cinnamon evenly over apple slices. Bake for approximately 1 hour and then turn each slice over, and continue to bake for at least another hour so. The longer they stay, they crispier they get.

8. Paneer Tikka -


Paneer tikka is an Indian dish made from chunks of paneer marinated in spices and grilled in a tandoor. It is a vegetarian alternative to chicken tikka and other meat dishes. you shall have the ption of doing it in tawa / grill / oven .

9. Tawa fried Vegetable Tikki


Mashed vegetables coated with breadcrums shallow fried / baked served with tomato chutney or mint chutney is a treat

 

10. Roasted Masala pappads



A papadum is a thin, crisp, disc-shaped food from the Indian subcontinent, typically based on a seasoned dough usually made from peeled black gram flour, either fried or cooked with dry heat. Flours made from other sources such as lentils, chickpeas, rice, tapioca, certain millets or potato can be used




roasted Masala pappads are roasted in oven topped with layers of chopped onion , tomato, chilly and lemon juice is a very interesting dish.

Crispy at the bottom and filled with juicy fillings on top.
